Paperclay Figurative Sculpting Course

About the Course

Discover the exciting world of figurative sculpture in this inspiring 6-week sculpting workshop, designed for both beginners and those wishing to develop their creative skills further. Guided step-by-step by professional, award-winning artist, you will learn how to transform imagination into a unique three-dimensional character using Creative Paperclay, a versatile air-drying sculpting material.

You will create a wire armature, sculpt and refine the figure, experiment with textures, and finally paint the finished piece using a unique technique developed by the artist.

Throughout the course, you will explore the complete sculptural process: from the initial idea and sketch to the finished painted figure. You will begin by learning how to build a strong wire armature to support the figure, before gradually sculpting and refining the form using a range of professional sculpting techniques demonstrated by the artist.

Working from your own sketches, reference images, or ideas, you will create an original figurative sculpture full of personality and expression. Examples of the artist’s work will be available for inspiration, helping you understand how shape, texture, gesture, and detail can bring a sculptural character to life.

As your sculpture develops, you will refine the form using shaping tools while experimenting with a variety of textures and surface effects to create depth and individuality. Students are also encouraged to incorporate small found objects or meaningful elements into their work, enriching the story and emotional connection behind each piece.

The final stage of the workshop focuses on painting and finishing techniques. Using the artist’s distinctive approach to colour and surface treatment, you will learn how to enhance textures and reveal the expressive qualities of your sculpture, giving it a unique and atmospheric finish.

✨ By the end of the workshop, you will:

• Create your own original figurative sculpture

• Learn essential sculpting, texturing, and finishing techniques

• Gain confidence in working with Creative Paperclay
